Serruria
Proteaceae Family
Serruria is a remarkable genus of plants that many may not have encountered until recent horticultural advancements made propagation possible. Known for their fine, needle-like leaves that adorn much of the plant, Serruria species add a unique aesthetic to any landscape. Unfortunately, habitat loss threatens many of these beautiful species, but through careful cultivation and propagation, we can continue to enjoy their beauty in our gardens.
Named in honor of J. Serrurier, a renowned botanist at the University of Utrecht in the early 18th century, Serruria plants are best suited for pot cultivation, which helps provide the ideal conditions for their growth and longevity. They thrive in well-drained soil and prefer full sun, making them excellent choices for container gardening or as part of a rock garden.
